About us

Twenty years of mission-critical systems, pointed at Africa's biggest information problems.

Kani Media Company was founded by a broadcast media systems architect who spent two decades building infrastructure that cannot fail — and then set out to build the same standard of reliability into the information Africa depends on.

The journey

From signal chains to satellites: how broadcast engineering became a company building real-time intelligence.

A career built in broadcast. For more than twenty years, our founder has worked in the broadcast television industry, building and supporting the mission-critical systems that keep television on the air. Over the course of his career—from broadcast engineering to media systems architecture—he has designed, integrated, commissioned, and modernized the infrastructure that transports video, audio, data, and communications across complex broadcast facilities.

Home is Nairobi. Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, our founder experienced firsthand both the incredible potential of East Africa and the challenges communities face when critical information isn't available at the right time. After building a career in broadcast engineering and media technology in the United States, he saw an opportunity to apply decades of experience toward solving those challenges back home.

Broadcasting was never just about television. At its core, it has always been about delivering trusted information to people when they need it most. Reliability, redundancy, timing, and resilience became foundational engineering principles. As technology evolved, cameras became sensors, satellite imagery became accessible, artificial intelligence matured, and weather data became available in real time. The mission remained the same—help people make better decisions through trusted information.

That realization became the foundation of Kani Media Company. Wingu9 is the first product in that vision—bringing together weather intelligence, live cameras, artificial intelligence, and early warning systems to help farmers and communities make better decisions. Agriculture is only the beginning. The long-term vision is to build technology that serves governments, broadcasters, businesses, emergency responders, and communities across Africa through trusted real-time intelligence.

Eric Mithamo

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Eric has spent more than twenty years working in the broadcast television industry, building and supporting the mission-critical systems that keep television on the air. Over the course of his career—from broadcast engineering to media systems architecture—he has designed, integrated, commissioned, and modernized the infrastructure that carries video, audio, data and communications across complex broadcast facilities. Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and now based in California, he founded Kani Media Company to apply that discipline to a much larger problem: the information Africa needs to make decisions.

Engineering background. Broadcast engineering is the practice of building systems that cannot go dark. Signal chains, routing, transport, redundancy, monitoring, timing — infrastructure judged by what happens on its worst day, not its best. That work is the foundation of everything Kani builds: real-time systems engineered for uptime, verification and trust rather than demos.

A vision for African technology. His conviction is that Africa should not import its information futures. The continent's most important systems — for farms, roads, rivers, cities and emergencies — will be built by people who understand its ground truth. Kani Media Company exists to build them, one product at a time, beginning with Wingu9.
